How are Diamonds Graded?

Diamonds are graded based on certain defining characteristics so they can be categorized into different diamond types. These characteristics are called the four C´s: carat, cut, color, and clarity. Carat (also known as the metric carat) measures weight with one carat being 200 milligrams. Cut refers to the proportion, symmetry, and polish of a diamond. The better a diamond´s cut, the more brilliant its shine. Color judges the transparency of classic diamonds, and the hue intensity of colored stones. Clarity measures a diamond’s freedom from imperfections known as inclusions, which can negatively affect a diamond´s natural tendency to reflect and scatter light.

Are Simulated Diamonds Real Diamonds?

Simulated diamonds do not possess the exact physical and chemical components as real diamonds. However, simulated diamonds are a great alternative to real ones. Plus, simulated diamonds are graded just like natural diamonds. In fact, the four C’s are used as the same grading system. Simulated diamonds made from carbon (such as cremation diamonds) can receive top grades in every category, while being much more affordable.
