Diamond heists and bank robberies are a common thread in urban legends: they tend to call to mind brilliant conmen and dangerous schemes. But did you know that the largest diamond heist ever pulled off by one person was performed thanks to nothing but personal charm and a one secret ingredient known as…chocolate? In 2007, an elderly man gained the trust of bankers in an important Antwerp locale by bringing them gifts of chocolate with every deposit that he made — and eventually took advantage of that trust to get past some of the highest tech security equipment in the world. The man, who has yet to be caught, walked away with well over 20 million dollars in diamonds, and the bank staff, presumably, learned an important lesson about security!
