How Diamonds Are Mined

9 January 2017 / Blog

Diamonds first come to the surface of the earth through deep vents that lead into the hot interior of the earth. From here, they are removed from the ground using a number of different techniques, from open pit mining to shaft mines. Machines sift the impure diamond ore that is then removed, until all that is left is diamonds. Most diamonds are lower grade, and shipped off to be used in industry. The diamonds that are high enough quality to be used in jewelry are then sorted according to their size and weight, and sent off to be cut by diamond cutting professionals, and sold in a diamond store near you.
