An October 26, 2016 feature in the New York Times promises an exciting future for both diamonds and technology alike: new research suggests that the gemstones could be capable of storing an incredible amount of information. According to the aforementioned article, a diamond a tiny diamond “about half as long as a grain of rice and thinner than a sheet of paper” could be capable of holding roughly 500GB — roughly 10 times the capability of a standard DVD. For a gem that is already famed for its incredible hardness, conductivity, and beauty, this is just another amazing fact!
