Diamond Science: 3 mind blowing facts about diamonds

Who said science can’t be fun? Here are 3 crazy facts about diamonds we bet you didn’t know!

1. Diamonds may be the hardest material on earth, but did you know that diamonds will evaporate completely when exposed to extreme heat or light?  No worries, though: as “extreme” as a hot summer day may feel, natural conditions alone won’t cause enough heat or light to destroy your gem!

2. Are you cool under pressure? Diamonds are!  The average diamond can withstand up to 88 million pounds of force per square inch!

3. How do scientists identify stones as genuine diamonds?  Though hardness tests are one effective method, the prefered means of identification is by testing thermal conductivity–it turns out that diamonds conduct heat better than almost any stone out there.  Is it hot in here, or is it just that diamond ring?
