How Rough Diamonds Are Finished - Heart In Diamond

After rough diamonds are mined they are sent to what is called a "finishing center."  Most finishing centers today are located in India, but Israel, New York, Antwerp, and Amsterdam are also important locations for diamond cutting and finishing. When a finishing center receives a rough diamond, decisions have to be made based upon its size, shape, and consistency about how best to cut the diamond to make it as valuable as possible. Often the stone then goes to a series of cutters who each cut the stone according to their specialty.  Finally, after being cut, the stone is polished and cleaned and is ready to be sold to market.
