How Diamonds Are Cut
The way a diamond is cut is what gives it its shape and shine. Continue reading to learn more about the process.
1. Sawing or cleaving
The purpose of this step it to break the rough diamond into smaller pieces. This can be accomplished using force, to break it apart, or slicing through it with a laze or diamond saw.
2. Bruting
Afterwards, the diamonds are placed on pieces of spinning machinery and grind the diamonds together to found them.
3. Polishing
Then, the cuts are made to help the diamond reflect light, and and the gem is polished.
4. Final step
Finally, the diamonds are bathed in acids and inspected for imperfections.
