Diamonds and Graphite - Heart In Diamond

Though they look, feel, and price quite differently, diamonds and graphite actually have a noteworthy chemical similarity: both materials are composed entirely of carbon. The only real difference between the two is the way that these carbon atoms bond. Ironically, even though diamonds are the harder material, graphite is actually the more stable of the two, as they represent the form that occurs naturally under existing atmospheric pressure. With time, in fact, diamonds may eventually return to being graphite due to this pressure. Nonetheless, diamonds are set to last for several billion years at minimum, so there’s no real cause for alarm.
