Diamond Slogans - Heart In Diamond
One reason why diamonds are so valuable is their rarity. Though industrial-grade diamonds are mined in staggering quantities around the globe, only a small minority of these stones are actually gem-quality.
Another reason why these stones are so precious, however, is their cultural significance. This takes root in the highly regarded status of diamonds in cultures throughout history -- but is also directly affected by the modern diamond industry. And two world-famous diamond slogans in particular helped to cement the popularity of these gems in the 20th century.
The first of these slogans, coined in 1947 by a copywriter for De Beers: Diamonds are forever.
And the second, popularized just two years later in 1949 in a song by jazz singer Carol Channing: diamonds are a girl's best friend.
