Creating a family cremation ring

There’s nothing like the bond of a family. The powerful link which connects you all truly stands the test of time — even after death. One way of maintaining and expressing the bond you all share, even if some of you have passed on, is through a family cremation ring. Dealing with grief is hard, other than therapy, a solid remembrance object may help.

What is a family cremation ring?

A family cremation ring is a piece of jewelry that has been made using the ashes of several different family members. The ashes can be combined and transformed into a single diamond. Or, you can keep each person’s ashes separate and use them to make individual diamonds and have them set into one ring.

Whichever option you choose, the result is always a dazzling creation that perfectly highlights the powerful connection which unites you all.

Multiple diamond ring

One of the best ways to create a family cremation ring is to make an individual diamond for each family member. For this method, you need to send us individual samples of each family member’s ashes. After we receive the ashes, we extract the pure carbon from each individual sample.

We then combine each sample with a diamond growing seed and place each pair into an HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) machine. The pairs remain inside the machines for 70-120 days, until one rough diamond is formed for every sample of ashes.

One of the benefits of creating this style of family cremation ring is that you can add more diamonds for different family members throughout time. If you choose a setting that has extra gemstone space, future family members can decide to have their ashes turned into a diamond and added to the ring.

This elegant halo ring, vintage ring are all stunning styles that will work with this idea.

Single diamond ring

When you choose to make a single diamond out of your family’s ashes, we extract the carbon from each individual sample and combine them. We then pair the combined ashes with a diamond growing seed, place them inside an HPHT machine and leave them for 70-120 days until one rough diamond has formed.

One of the advantages of this style of ring is that all your deceased family members are united forever within a single genuine diamond. This compelling symbolism can provide a lot of comfort and peace during times of need.

The ocean wave ring, cathedral ring, or scroll cathedral ring are all beautiful choices for a family cremation ring made with a single diamond.

The only real disadvantage of a single diamond ring is that you can’t alter it. After the diamond has been created, you can’t add more ashes to it from other family members. It’s complete and will stay the way it is forever.

However, you could consider a design that highlights a single diamond made from the ashes of current decreased relatives and leaves room for more diamonds to be added. This way, when other relatives pass away, you could combine their ashes into more diamonds.

You could join them together into a single diamond or keep their ashes separate and create individual diamonds. This cathedral channel ring, princess channel ring, or princess shoulder ring could all work for this type of design.

Eternal family heirloom

A family cremation ring doesn't just provide you with a sense of comfort and tranquility when you need it the most. It can give members of your family who haven’t even been born yet a connection to their ancestors and where they came from.

Diamonds last for millions of years. So as long as the special piece of jewelry is taken care of, it can stay in your family until the very end. As more family members are created and pass on, others can choose to have their ashes turned into diamonds and be added to the treasured family heirloom.

You don’t need to worry about the size. It’s impossible to pick a ring size that will fit everyone. Instead, when it’s time to pass the family cremation ring onto the next generation, consider gifting it on a chain. This way, the person you’re giving it to will be able to wear and cherish it, regardless of their ring size.

If other family members not being able to wear the ring on their finger bothers you, consider creating a different piece of jewelry. At Heart In Diamond, we also create pendants that can be used with almost any chain.

Some pendants, such as the classic solstice four-prong pendant or the ancient style chain slide are ideal if you want to transform your family’s ashes into a single diamond. The seven-prong cluster pendant or full moon pendant is more suitable if you want to create multiple diamonds.
