A Tale of Two Diamonds - Heart In Diamond

A short guide to two of the world’s most well-known diamonds.

The Great Star of Africa

When it was first discovered, the Great Star of Africa weighed in at 3106 carats, making it the largest diamond ever discovered. The diamond would later be cut down to yield 105 different diamonds. The largest of these diamonds weighs roughly 530 carats and decorates the British Royal Scepter.

The Taylor-Burton Diamond

Richard Burton purchased this 1.1 million dollar diamond to be given to Elizabeth Taylor as a gift of engagement. When the diamond was discovered it was 240 carats, but it would later be cut down to roughly 70. Liz Taylor would later auction off the diamond for more than twice what Burton had once paid for it.
