Bert liked to tinker. Owning a hobby shop meant that his hobby was his work and his work, his hobby. When he wasn’t tending the store, he was making toys, games, models and other useful stuff with his grandsons. Losing Suzi to Leukaemia broke our hearts, but she stays alive, sparkling on dad’s hand, alive in his memory. Every day dad can look at a tiny diamond reminder and that way, Suzi will never really die.

No one expected that Marjorie, a confirmed couch potato, would marry a physical education teacher. But Bert got her off the couch and up more mountains than a Sherpa. She became super fit. Bert always joked that one day Marjorie would have to carry him.
