The producers of mined diamonds share the concerns that we do regarding the damage done to the environment and the exploitation of labor in the mining of their diamonds. After all, the history of mined diamonds has been a site of struggle between the owners of mines and environmental and labor groups. Ultimately, there is no getting away from the fact that these concerns cannot be overcome, other than through a move away from mined diamonds to the laboratory-grown diamonds of the future.
BETWEEN ONE AND 3.3 BILLION YEARS IN THE MAKING
The foundation is placed in a High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) machine (the expensive part). This machine mimics the process diamonds go through when they grow naturally in the Earth’s crust. Your diamond gets placed under an intense pressure of 60,000 atmospheres and an extreme temperature of 3,632°F!
